Coco Beach, Playa del Carmen: guide and rentals nearby
Coco Beach
Coco Beach is the stretch of sand at the north end of 5th Avenue, around Calle 46 and Calle Flamingo. Many locals swim here. The water is usually calm, there are fewer tourists than downtown, and families with small children like it. Facilities are few and there is almost no shade, so bring an umbrella. Further north are Playa 88, a Blue Flag beach, and Punta Esmeralda, which has a small cenote, showers and free palapas.
Good to know

- ✦ Quieter than the downtown beaches
- ✦ Almost no shade or facilities on the sand
- ✦ Dive boats often leave from here
- ✦ Sargassum comes in season; in 2026 it peaked in June and July and was easing by October
